The "Love for Luca" project, is a heartwarming and inspiring initiative spearheaded by Jessica, Luca's mother, to show Luca the vast world he has largely been isolated from due to his ultra-rare condition, Complete DiGeorge Syndrome with Congenital Athymia. The project was launched around the time Luca was able to leave isolation after 21 months following his successful thymus transplant and immune system reconstitution. Having spent most of his early life either in hospitals or at home in isolation due to his lack of an immune system, Luca had limited exposure to the outside world. The "Love for Luca" project aimed to bridge this gap by bringing the world to him.
Jessica asked supporters from around the globe to send in photos of places that hold special meaning to them, accompanied by a "Love for Luca" sign. These submissions came from every state and numerous countries, demonstrating a widespread outpouring of support and love for Luca. The pictures were meant to give Luca a tangible connection to the outside world he couldn't physically experience. Receiving these photos is a profound source of encouragement and a reminder that they are not alone in their challenging journey. It's a way for the "Luca Rising" community to actively participate in Luca's journey and express their solidarity, creating a sense of connection and shared purpose. Each photo acted as a promise of future adventures and experiences.
In essence, the "Love for Luca" project is a beautiful testament to the power of human connection and the desire to bring joy and hope to a child who has faced extraordinary medical battles. It's a visual manifestation of the widespread love and support surrounding Luca, showcasing the many places he has the potential to someday explore. The family has made this exploration a priority recently having the opportunities to photograph him at several featured locations.
Cards are always welcome, we love celebrating Luca's journey through life one destination at a time. Adventure truly does await!
